Team Inspiration: Today's Oilers are proud to renew the heritage of the Class D
minor league Owensboro Oilers franchise playing in the Kitty League between 1936
to 1942 and 1946 to 1955. The historic Oilers were affiliated with the Boston
Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates, and New York Yankees. Owensboro shaped the early
careers of former Pirates manager Chuck Tanner and Yankees great Tony Kubek.
